Disenchanted Students Find Success at Options High School in Bellingham - Bellingham Herald (6/22/15)

Michelle Wilhelm thought her first classroom would be full of little desks, the walls covered in crayon drawings. Instead, the tables are large and the bookshelves crammed with young adult and classic novels. A high school full of students who chose an alternate path to education wasn’t in her plans. But it was in her past. Wilhelm, the English teacher at Options High School, was one of those teens disenchanted with school. A bad end-of-year report card can put a damper on the start of summer for teens and their parents. "I definitely think it can be frustrating for parents and they may not know what direction to go in and try to help their student," says Dominique Foster, guidance director at Prince Edward County High School in Farmville, Virginia.
